That's why I crosstrained, as well. I couldn't believe the first time I fitted (and flew) a Myrmidon. Imagine, a cap stable boat that can tank and gank!
Originally by: Andreask14 The Thorax is COMPLETELY overpowered (does way more DPS than an omen) and the vexor is WAY better than an arby (i mean, TWO turrets on the arby LAWL). Lets not even start about the useless TDs, the nerfed NOS and the horribly boned tracking on pulse lasers.
Agree totally on the Thorax. That boat is sick! Since I'd already cross-trained earlier and now needed a cruiser PvP boat, I went back and checked everything out in the Amarr line. With the exception of the Arbie, everything sucks to fit and is inferior to the Thorax, by a wide margin. Imagine my surprise to find I could actually fit a Thorax WITH LASERS and get better DPS, better speed, better tank and better better cap stability than either an Omen or Maller. That's just.. sad.
[Thorax, PvP 259/6/1281/18K] 800mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I 2x Heat Sink II
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator J5 Prototype Warp Inhibitor I
5x Focused Anode Pulse Particle Stream I, Multifrequency M
Hammerhead I x5
-- And that's 259 points of DPS with just the cheap guns fitted (ofc, drones make the difference). Plus 12-18000 points of effective tank, depending on whether you swap out the plate for a repper.
The problem with Amarr, as has been said ad nauseum, is lasers. Many of the boats themselves are either fine or could be improved with minor changes - if only laser cap usage were addressed.
And, to answer the OP, I chose Amarr (never having played an MMO before and knowing nothing of how gimped this race was) because the ships were sweet looking and the Amarr seemed like the badass overlords of EVE. Turns out that sound of cheering parades I thought I'd heard were really the sounds of Caldari, Gallente and Minimatar players lulzing at me. -- Meridius Dex --
